The Information and Records Management Society (IRMS) is demonstrating its commitment to inclusivity and supporting the next generation of practitioners with the launch of three bursaries for attendance of the IRMS Conference 2024 – Next Generation; Diversity & Inclusion; International. Applications open now until 10th March 2024, with the IRMS Conference taking place at DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole from 12th – 14th May 2024.
The IRMS bursary initiative was introduced last year as part of the society’s mission to provide services and opportunities that enables its 100,000 members, as well as those working in the wider industry to continue their professional journey. It does this by providing a wealth of opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in a safe and supportive community, which welcomes people at all levels of professional experience. The centrepiece of the society’s calendar is its annual conference.
Themed “Tides of Change,” this year the IRMS Conference 2024 is focusing on supporting more than 400 information and records management professionals to keep in step with constantly evolving data, process, technology, policy, and regulatory changes in the modern workplace. Chair of the IRMS, Jaana Pinnick, comments on the importance of making the conference available to all: “Each year we move the IRMS Conference to a different city to make it accessible to the many, as well as working hard to ensure the programme enriches every delegate from those new to records and information management, through to the seasoned practitioner. We also strive to make sure that cost is not a barrier to attending, and it is for this reason that we are offering bursaries for 2024.”
The bursary categories for the IRMS Conference 2024 are…
New Generation: Applicants need to be aged 30 or under as of the start date of the conference (12th May 2024).
Diversity & Inclusion: Applicants must identify as an ethnicity other than the white British or white Irish ethnic groups, and/or have a disability that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to conduct normal day-to-day activities.
International: You must be able to reasonably demonstrate that you currently live and/or work in a country other than the United Kingdom or Ireland. In addition, to be eligible for this bursary you must be a current, active member of the IRMS at the time of applying.
Pinnick continues: “Those who received bursaries last year have all since advanced in their career, or have successfully commenced full-time professional postgraduate studies. I am looking forward to welcoming the 2024 recipients as well as every delegate to Brighton, for what is set to be our biggest, best and most inclusive IRMS Conference so far.”
Each bursary provides one fully funded place (excluding travel) and includes all conference sessions, food and refreshments, evening social events, and two nights’ on-site accommodation. The conference is open to anyone concerned with information and records management, regardless of their professional and organisational status or qualifications.
